The Karnataka Janapada Parishath, under the able leadership of Shri H.L. Nagégowda, has made remarkable strides in the preservation and promotion of Karnataka’s folk culture. Three major ventures that reflect the Parishath’s dedication to folk culture are the Janapada Mahavidyalaya (Folk University), the HLN Research Centre, and the HLN Folk Art Training Center.

Janapada Mahavidyalaya

Janapada Mahavidyalaya, established by Karnataka Janapada Parishath, is a pioneering institution dedicated to formalizing folk culture as an academic discipline. It integrates folklore studies with anthropology, sociology, linguistics, and communication, offering diploma and certificate courses for students, artists, and teachers.

The curriculum covers folk music, dance, theater, and visual arts, with Sunday classes and hands-on training. HLN Research Centre
